About the Album

With Tranquillamente coming out may 1st my next focus is the album “Almost Alive” which is a ten-song album that moves through crisis and survival, and sobriety and the musical keys actually follow that journey.  The album ties in written at the same time as my recent poetry book Trauma, my classical piano album Tranquillamente, and this album, which all follow under my art brand Fracture & Form.

The first three songs — in C major, G major, and D major — all lean hard into their darker minor chords. They sound like someone trying to feel okay but not quite getting there. Track 4 shifts into Bb major, a heavier, flatter key, which is where the narrator admits they’re only “almost alive.” The music matches the fragility of that moment.

Tracks 5 and 6 move into F major and A major, briefly brightening — but the lyrics are still about loss, which creates a tension between what you’re hearing and what you’re feeling. Track 7, “Midnight Tremors,” drops into C minor — the only pure minor key on the entire record, no major anchor at all. That’s the crisis point.

Then track 8 opens into E major, one of the brightest keys on the album, and the lyrics finally say “I could love again.” Everything turns there. Track 9 settles into D minor and F, winding back toward familiar ground. Track 10 closes in C major — the same harmonic world the album started in, but this time the major wins instead of the minor pulling it under.

The whole album makes a U-shape musically: uncertain in C, G, and D at the start, descending through Bb and into C minor at the darkest point, then climbing back out through E major and resolving home. It ends where it began — just with more resolve.

The lyrics I will get into another time after this first hectic week of the release of Tranquillamente on May 1st.
