Cell Time

,

from a journal entry from time in prison 2017, transformed to song format

Cell Time Demo (at the bottom of page, also autoplayed)
Guitar and vocals by me double tracked recored, VST instrumentation for percussion and waves vst ai in post.
Written from the inside — three feet of concrete, a welded bed, and a mind that won’t stop circling. This one came out of jail journals I never expected to turn into a song, but the walls wrote most of it for me.

A story about the difference between the cage they build and the one you build yourself first.

Cell Time
VERSE 1
Four solid stripped walls clamping around my skull
I scream but its silent,to not make a scene and keep my reputation in tact
Warped thoughts with no way to expel in 3 feet of concrete cell
Physical body's on this welded bed, and my minds deep down on the devils rack
Everywhere, everywhen, still alone, surround by people on edge willing to cut my throat
Just me, this cell, fighting myself on my own.

CHORUS
Stone walled cage, reenforced inches of steel
Taunting my freedom, just out of reach for skin to feel
Darkness everywhere, Bleakness inside
Either way I wont come out the same man who walked in
When release is 3 years in time
Four solid stripped walls
Built keep me from ruining the world.

VERSE 2
Slightly through the tinted glass my eyes film the world
Crossroads, gas station, roads that intersect stop and curl
Less than a mile is this prison from a home I can, but not allowed to reach
Locks are locks, and these walls cant be breached
This place was built to muffle the calls
Every man screaming and begging the outside world for help

PRE-CHORUS
Let me out, let me out, let me out

CHORUS
Stone walled cage, reenforced inches of steel
Taunting my freedom, just out of reach for skin to feel
Darkness everywhere, Bleakness inside
Either way I wont come out the same man who walked in
When release is 3 years in time
Four solid stripped walls
Built keep me from ruining the world.

VERSE 3
Three times a day they line us up for pills single file to wait
Call it treatment, professional help, naming it any kind of way
But ninety percent of us will come back
Thrown off track the second we try climb the outside worlds problems correct
Out of jobs, no more life jackets left, out of people who could give a damn
We all are just their shame

BRIDGE
Alone now, just the bolted metal mirror and the steel sink
I stare into my own eyes and I think
I don't recognize the creature staring back
No systemized prison did this to me first
I was my own worst warden
Long before they hit the gavel down
The walls were mine, now they are just visible to the eye

FINAL CHORUS
Stone walled cage, reenforced inches of steel
Taunting my freedom, just out of reach for skin to feel
Darkness everywhere, darkness inside
Twenty-seven years and this is what I've got
Either way I wont come out the same man who walked in
Who's in there. Still no answer. Who is this man, still just me.

OUTRO (spoken/half-sung, fading)
Still just me... still just me...
