Matthew P. Haubert is an Ohio-based composer, poet, and visual artist whose work spans two decades and three mediums.
His debut poetry collection, Trauma: Poems and Songs of a Failed Life, is a 460-page archive of poems, song lyrics, and institutional journals written across psychiatric hospitalizations, county jail, and years of addiction. His piano album Tranquillamente collects original compositions drawn from the same years, fully notated and recorded in his own studio. He holds a degree in music composition and releases music independently on Apple Music and SoundCloud.
His work does not perform recovery. It does not ask for sympathy. It insists, through poetry and music and the persistence of making things, that a life lived at the edges of systems designed to warehouse rather than heal is still a life worth documenting.
A body of work. Ohio. Twenty years.
