Concrete Congregation

,

A song written today about losing your time to companys you work for, after the lyrics a full cheat sheet for playing is after.

Concrete Congregation

Tuning Drop D and playing Em as a low drone voicing

Verse 1 (fingerpicked, steady quarter-note pulse
Em – C – G – D
)

Wake up to the sound of highways breathing
Another day sold before my eyes even open
Clocks all around always show strict deadlines
Punch in, Punch out, and dont ask why

Verse 2 (Em – C – G – D)

They built us a ladder with papers and rules
Told us if we climb we will succeed, just dont look down
the same song said anywhere you travel the world
Same old slideshow sermons taught in every town

Chorus (open up a little, strum instead of pick)
C – G – D – Em
Am – C – D – D(sus4 to D)

(add) Am – G

Societys got a hunger, and its never satisfied
Wants your hands, wants your hours, wants your youths fire in your eyes
And if you try to escape, find a patch of escape
the congregation eventually comes around,
as you grow older wanting more fades and dies

Verse 3 (Em – C – G – D) double 8 bars a line instead of 4 for that slow donwn effect

So we see a man selling comfort by the grams
Preaching one size fits all, an escape for every working man
And when I tried I kept walking till the pavement turned to ground
and the world around went quiet, I collapsed in happiness, relief fell

Bridge ( Am – Em – Am – Em let it breathe full four counts, spoken word delivery)

I realized then Freedoms not a place you live
its the weight of when you decided to lay down
And let go, no time clock ticking your heart till it stops.

Chorus (strumming C – G – D – Em
Am – C – D – D(sus4 to D)

Societys got a hunger, and its never satisfied
Wants your hands, wants your hours, wants your youths fire in your eyes
And if you try to escape, find a patch of escape
the congregation eventually comes around,
as you grow older wanting more fades and dies

Outro (strip back down to fingerpicking, fade
Em – C – G – D – Em)

So I take these nights long roads with no name
till I get lost, till I collapse again
let the grass and the sky do the talking
Leave societys frame
Everyone can keep that made up throne
Ill ttake the woods, and Ill take the stones

Full chord chart cheat sheet with bar counts and musical stylings

Tuning Drop D and playing Em as a low drone voicing

VERSE1 (Em – C – G – D, 4 bars/line — except where noted)

LineChordsBars
“Wake up to the sound…”Em – C – G – D4
“Another day sold before my eyes even open” (trimmed)Em – C – G – D4
“Clocks all around always show strict deadlines”Em – C – G – D4
“Punch in, punch out, and dont ask why”Em – C – G – D4

VERSE 2 (same 4-bar pattern, line 2 is the tight one — pick up the strum pattern’s density there rather than adding bars, keeps the “list of rules” feel breathless)

LineChordsBars
“Societys got a hunger…”C – G2
“Wants your hands, wants your hours…”D – Em2
“And if you try to escape, find a patch of escape”Am – C2
“the congregation eventually comes around”D – Dsus4/D2
“as you grow older wanting more fades and dies”Am – G2

Total: 10 bars, resolving on G (leaves it unsettled — doesn’t return to Em until the next verse starts, which mirrors “wanting… fades and dies” not quite landing anywhere solid).
